COMPETITIONS

It is a known fact that children are to be exposed to learn and develop the true spirit of sportsmanship right from their young age with the right attitude towards the very idea of healthy competition. Through these healthy competitions they imbibe many life values and learn that, every competition produces losers and winners. The one win or the one loss, neither defines them nor breaks them. Psychologists however reveal - healthy competition is progressive.

Healthy Competition

Competition can be considered healthy when it provides an unbiased feedback to children about their performance and improvement as compared to their previous performances. Thus, winning always does not remain the primary objective while participation becomes critical. Under these circumstances, competitions can teach invaluable lessons. In view of this and especially in schools, it is critical that teachers and parents work to teach children these valuable lessons and encourage children to participate in a competition. Healthy competition also inspires children to do their best and progress. When students compete with each other in an environment of school, they become more inquisitive and gather inner strength to go a notch upward.

Competitions are necessary for Child’s growth to inculcate team spirit, collaboration, self-confidence, an urge to excel, sympathy, empathy, leadership, etc. It is important to stress here that, all children should be given an opportunity to participate. Competitions are required to judge individual’s progress as compared to their previous performances. Most convincingly, competitions also teach accepting failures gracefully and develop true sportsmanship.
